Uruguay Digital Nomad Visa Requirements

  • Permanent Residency - Yes, the digital nomad visa can lead to permanent residency in Uruguay. Currently, if you live in the country for two years, you may apply for permanent residency if you have been present for at least six months out of the year.

How to Apply for the Uruguay Digital Nomad Visa

To complete the application, you must already be in Uruguay too. So, you can enter the country as a tourist and apply for the Uruguay digital nomad visa without a problem.

Step 1: Create Digital ID

Before you can submit your Uruguay digital nomad visa application, you must first create a digital ID with the government. It’s important to note that the website is in Spanish, so you may find it useful to have your browser translate it to your natural language.

When creating your digital ID, you must enter your name and passport information. They will send you a verification email to finalize your digital ID.

Step 2: Submit Application

Once you have your digital ID, you can revisit the original website and click “Start Online Process” again to complete your Uruguay digital nomad visa application.

As you fill in the application, you will use your digital ID and password to verify your identity.

When it asks for your “Home Address,” you will fill in that information with the address of where you are staying in Uruguay. This can be updated if you move around.

You will come to a section titled “Requested Attachments,” asking how long you plan to stay in Uruguay. The maximum number of days you can put is 180 – the length of the visa.

Lastly, you’ll upload a digital copy of your passport and download and sign an affidavit swearing that you work remotely can earn enough income to support yourself in Uruguay.

You can submit the application and receive a confirmation email.

Step 3: Pay Visa Fee

There is a visa application fee of around $10 USD that you must pay.

Unfortunately, you cannot pay for the fee online without a Uruguay bank-issued credit or debit card. So, you can visit a local shop where local Uruguay residents can go and pay their bills. Simply show them the confirmation of your visa application, and you can pay the fee there.

Step 4: Receive Your Permit

Within 10 days of paying the visa application fee, you will receive your Uruguay digital nomad visa permit via email.
